The Penticton Indian Band represents one of the seven communities of the Okanagan Nation. The other six communities being comprised of:
• the Upper Similkameen
• the Lower Similkameen
• the Osoyoos Indian Band
• the Westbank Indian Band
• the Okanagan Indian Band
• the Upper Nicola Indian Band

The People of the Okanagan Nation have executed a formal Declaration stating historical facts and the resolve of our people to defend our land, which land we know as "Our Mother", and our people which declaration states, amongst other things that:
WE ARE UNCONQUERED ABORIGINAL PEOPLES OF OUR MOTHER .
THE CREATOR HAS GIVEN TO US OUR MOTHER TO ENJOY, TO MANAGE AND TO PROTECT;
WE HAVE NEVER GIVEN UP OUR RIGHT TO OUR MOTHER,
OUR MOTHER'S RESOURCES, OUR GOVERNMENTS AND OUR RELIGION.
WE WILL SURVIVE AND CONTINUE TO GOVERN OUR MOTHER
AND HER RESOURCES FOR THE GOOD OF ALL TIME.
The Penticton Indian Band as a member of the Okanagan Nation retain and enjoy aboriginal rights within their traditional territory which are recognized and confirmed by the December 11, 1997 Delgamuuk'w decision of the Supreme Court of Canada, and the Constitution Act, 1982.
The Penticton Indian Band, as a member of the Okanagan Nation Allicance, have fully accepted their unique responsibility bestowed upon them by the Creator, to serve, for all time, as protectors of the lands, waters, and resources of the Okanagan Nation Traditional Territory.
