Services and Programs Offered

The PIBSD has many long term programs which are always open and available to the individuals and families who may need or use them. Programs such as:

  • the Family Preservation program
    which is coordinated by our Family Preservation Worker who aids families who are experiencing difficulties and are at risk of family breakdown or child apprehension.
  • the Urban Family Outreach program which provides service to Urban Aboriginals who reside in the Southern Okanagan and are away from their own communities and is coordinated by the Urban Family Outreach Worker.
  • Footprints to Technology
    A program which provides introductory computer training to Aboriginal persons who are elderly or have disabilities.
  • Guardian Financial Assistance (GFA)
    A program which provides the financial support of a child who is in another person's care and living on-reserve.
  • In-home care
    A program which provides Home Support Workers to aid the elderly, disabled or temporarily out of commision who are currently residing on Penticton Indian Band lands.

    The PIBSD department also has several on-going programs which offer financial support and access to resources which aid in positive change, employment and healthy livestyles. Programs such as:

  • A.S.A.R.E.T.
    The Aboriginal Social Assistance Recipient Employment Training program which offers Social Assistance recipients an individual entitlement to be used towards employment and/ or skills training for up to twenty-four (24) months.
  • W.O.P.
    The Work Opportunities Program provides Social Assistance recipients with the opportunity to regain independance and employment by combining funds from another source to create employment on reserve.
  • N.C.B.
    National Child Benefit reinvestment program provides financial assistance to various programs and services which benefit the growth and development of children who are living on-reserve.
  • T.E.S.I.
    the Training/ Employment Strategy Initiative is a program which assists with the training or training initiatives for people on Social Assistance.

    As you can see, there are several programs and services provided to the community living on the Penticton Indian reserve which are provided by or supported by the Penticton Indian Band Social Development Department.
