The Family Preservation program provides in-home counseling and intensive support to Aboriginal families and their children who living are on reserve. Families and children who are:

      • identified as experiencing difficulties or distress
      • are at risk of a family breakdown and/ or
      • child apprehension

    SERVICES PROVIDED:

      • Behavior Management training
      • Parenting techniques and guidance
      • Dealing with discipline
      • Establishing routines
      • Household management
      • Understanding development stages
      • Accessing community resources
      • Preparing for treatment programs
      • Counseling referrals
      • Lifeskills planning
      • Syilx cultural activities and practices

    SERVICE DELIVERY:

      • Case management for the family remains with the Penticton Indian Band.
      • Quarterly reports are submitted to the Ministry for Children and Families.
      • Participation is encouraged and supported in order for the children to remain with the custodial parent and within their own culture.
      • Minimum requirement of two (2) hours per week when working with the Family Preservation Worker.
      • Follow-ups are available
      • Hours of service are flexible to clients needs.

**All referrals must be initiated by Dorothy Ward, B.S.W., Director of Social Development OR the Ministry for Children and Families.
